I was recently reminded of the term "thin place." This designation has been most often used to refer to locations that evoke awe. The spiritual describe a feeling of the space between heaven and Earth being exceptionally close at these locations.

Then my world was altered forever with a question. What if the whole planet is a "thin place"? My whole adult life, I assumed that had to work long and hard, spend money and travel far to earn a trip to a "thin place." The idea that thin places might be all around at all times felt like a relief. It also made so much sense to me! The distance between people, species and environments are thinner than we realized in the past.

As part of my own personal Vision for 2022, I would like to pay close attention to the words, images and metaphors I choose to convey my ideas and those of my clients. Do they further my and my clients' highest purpose?

Tip for Visual Thinkers

Need to convey abstract or high level concepts? Sometimes it helps to start with a theme that lends itself to more concrete imagery. Here I used my new puppy, Kade, to illustrate some 2021 wisdom I want to carry forward into 2022.

Lessons from Furry Friends

  • Every day is a good day
  • Give and receive affection regularly
  • To BECOME an alpha, ACT like one
  • Greet each day with GUSTO
  • There is ALWAYS time to stop and watch a flock of birds take off
  • ACT happy, BE happy
  • Little things matter (picking up that piece of trash means a critter won't try to eat it!)
  • Nap when needed
  • Always keep the door open a crack
  • Give more PRAISE than reprimand
  • Learning a new skill requires repetition, repetition, repetition
  • There is ALWAYS room for one more on the couch

Your turn! Grab a pen and a piece of paper, and let's draw a bit.

  • How might you draw these concepts? Draw out one or two.
  • What other ideas do you have from your furry friends (wild or domestic)? Draw out one or two of those.

Congratulations - you just added several new images to your visual vocabulary!
